Global sportswear and equipment giant Puma has announced tighter climate and circularity goals as part of its new Vision 2030 sustainability targets.
The company aims to reduce scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% from a 2017 baseline as well as cutting scope 3 emissions by a third. It also plans to increase renewable energy use at its core suppliers and use less carbon-intensive materials.
The Bavaria-headquartered brand has already made steps forward in this space: It reduced greenhouse gas emissions 24% in 2023 compared to 2022, and produces 80% of its products from recycled or certified materials.
To boost its circularity credentials, Puma aims to introduce re-sell and repair in selected markets, joining a growing trend that has seen more than 150 brands introduce resale programs since 2018.
Puma’s other 2030 circularity targets include using 100% recycled polyester and sourcing 20% of cotton fabrics from recycled sources.
“With Vision 2030 we have elevated and evolved our current 10FOR25 sustainability goals to achieve impact on a larger scale across our business in climate, circularity and human rights,” said Puma’s chief sourcing officer Anne-Laure Descours. “We are setting the bar higher to stay true to our responsibility to be FOREVER. BETTER. throughout our business, for people and the planet.”
